A PEEK AT THE WEEK
January 9 – 13
January Happenings
We will be exploring a number of different themes. We will continue the Jan Brett author study. The story, The Mitten, will help us review the important parts of a story. Our vocabulary words, that explain these parts are - title, characters, setting, problem and solution. Next week we will learn about being a leader as we discover why Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is so special.

JOURNAL WRITING
We have been busy writing and illustrating in our journals. I encourage each student to write as much as he/she is able to do on their own using inventive spelling. I do expect the children to spell our star words correctly. If you have a few moments to spare, this is a wonderful activity to do with your child. If your child isn’t able to hear all the sounds in the word he/she is trying to write, that’s ok. Ask if he/she knows the beginning, middle, and/or ending sounds then print that! This is great start to becoming a writer, so remember to praise all efforts!
NWEA TIME
Next week the children will be going to the computer lab to begin the winter round of NWEA testing. This fun computer activity will give us updated data in reading and math. Please encourage your child to do their best. One way to help your child to do his or her best is by having them get an adequate amount of sleep.
Looking forward to a great week!
