Kindergarten and First Grade Field Trip

Dear Parents,

Our goal as teachers of Kindergarten and First grade is to foster a joy of reading for our students that goes on forever! With this belief in mind, we are planning a field trip to encourage our students to embark on a life-time desire of using a public library. The staff, at the Douglas County Library, is excited to provide some literacy activities for our students which will promote this goal.

Helping children recognize different coins and being able to make change are goals of our classrooms. Using real life experiences is a fun way for students to demonstrate their understanding of this math skill. What could be more exciting than giving children some money and allowing them to make a purchase at a store? To top off our field trip we will go to McDonald’s and let each child order a special, pre-selected (food allergies will be taken into consideration) treat. We are happy to give the money as a holiday gift to the children for their purchase. The children should not bring money for this field trip.

Our field trip will be on Friday, December 17. We will eat lunch at school, and then depart at noon. We will travel to Alexandria to the library and McDonald’s. There is no cost to students for this field trip.

Parkers Prairie Elementary School has a tradition of student gift exchange. This trip will replace the student gift exchange, so the students will NOT need to purchase gifts for each other. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Thank you,
Kindergarten and First Grade Teachers
