A PEEK AT THE WEEK OF APRIL 9 – 13
We have been working hard to complete a book which you can enjoy hearing your child read. It is called “Spring is a Time for…” and it is coming home tonight! Each rhyming page contains several I Can Read Words and a list of non-sense words. Please listen and see if your child is putting the sounds together to make real words, but they should just say the sounds for the non-sense words. Sometime in May, the children will be rechecked to see if they are able to make the sounds for the non-sense words. Many times the pretend word sounds strange to them so they try to make it into a real word and are then marked wrong. But, if they only say the individual sounds, they get it right! Enjoy the book together.
Our math activities for the week will include adding, putting numbers in order from the smallest to the largest, breaking numbers into number bonds (ie. 10 can be 0 & 10, 1 &9, 2&8, 3&7, 4& 6, and 5&5), and determining what number is one more or one less than a given number. We are also working on subtracting. If you have a moment to play some games with your child, I would encourage you to please visit www.ixl.com. It is a great website for strengthening math skills. It is free to use for some levels of activity each day. It is really worth checking out and marking as a favorite for summer use!
